Catherine
began painting and selling her works at age fourteen. After graduating from Jacksonville
University with a B.F.A., she received the 1978 Graphic Art Award and the
Certificate of Honor in Printmaking.
The Florida Times applauded her work on several occasions. One
of her early accomplishments includes being commissioned to paint a mural for
the United Brotherhood of Painters Union in their Manhattan headquarters on
Fifth Avenue. She expanded her
horizons as an assistant to master sculptor, Judith Brown, who she assisted
with the completion of a bronze sculptures displayed
in Tiffany’s windows, Christmas 1980.
In 1981, Catherine’s paintings were exhibited in the Greenspring Art Gallery in SoHo,
New York City. After
receiving her Master’s Degree from Queens College, she was hired to teach in
their School of Education/Continuing Children’s Art Program. She is a licensed New York State teacher. Catherine
has studied and exhibited at The Victor D’Amico Institute of Art, The Art
Barge, located in Amagansett, New York. Catherine
is an active member of the Montauk Artist’s Association, Long Island New
York. Her works have been featured in
small group shows since 2003. Her work
will be exhibited this August. She has
exhibited in many all member shows and The Juried Art shows on the Montauk
Green. While
painting on Little Cranberry Island, a small island off coast of Bar Harbor,
Maine, Catherine was invited to exhibit her oil paintings. She was a visitor that was able to convey
the special bond the community feels for their Maine Island. The Islesford Artists Gallery has invited
her back to exhibit. Catherine
is a member of numerous Artists’ Guilds.
Her most recent achievements include being a recipient of “The Nelda
A. Howell Award”, 2011. Presently her
painting “The Lake” is exhibiting in the New England Landscape Invitational
in the Lyme Art Associations Gallery.
Jeffery Cooley of Cooley Gallery selected the painting. Catherine
continues to follow her love of printmaking as a member of The Center for
contemporary Printmaking. Ten of her
small works are presently on display in London, England. Publications
which featured her art work have been Dan’s Papers and The Montauk Pioneer. “Perfect Day”, an oil painting, was
featured as the cover of Dan’s Paper.
Catherine
Caulfield Russell continues to be inspired by nature and paints primarily en plein aire. Her paintings are completed ala prim. She is not only inspired by nature but
loves to live outdoors while creating and capturing the ever changing face of
nature |
